With our former ESL student at Mount San Antonio Community College, Liu Ching-Rong. We met him recently while he was in Taiwan on business. Very nice guy, and his English has improved a lot. For some reason, he makes me think of a Chinese version of Gorbachev. :)

Doctor Liu's Baptism

Liz's father, Dr. Chao-nan Liu got baptized on July 1st at The Bread Of Life Church in Taichung. Here he is before the baptism (in his gown) with Liz's mom "Julie".

We joined a processon outside the church with Dr. Liu and other "new believers". We walked through the local park, stopped and sang hymns by the roadside.

"Down Island" School Rally Tour

Thanks to Tony Liu for these school rally photos from Xinshe Junior High in Taichung County.

The different year classes at the school have different uniforms.

Playing a "Telephone Charades" game known as "Super Sunday" (from a TV program in Taiwan). Here the students try to "pass" the word "guitar" down to the final student.

Here the word is "tennis"...

... and here the word is "frog". As you can see, students had a good time "getting into the act".

A Special Kid

With "Andy" - a special kid at Zhunan Middle School (south of Hsinchu) where we did a small rally recently.

The local teachers help us out with the Studio Classroom "Give Me Ten" gestures. Liz and one of them help me (Phil) to look like a moose (nice antlers!).

Taiwan Technology

Liz at her current favorite local restaurant - "The India Palace" (in Miramar's food court). Behind her (on the left), a daughter and Dad play with their gizmos while Mom looks away (Mom's probably wondering what's happened to family communication these days). Interestingly enough, the girl on the other side of Liz is also playing with her cell phone (while the guy across from her probably just wants to talk with her). So does modern technology bring us closer together or take us further apart? Sometimes I'm not so sure.
