Recently our church, The Home Of Christ (HOC) in Taipei had a special yearly joint service which included members of our bilingual service along with the Chinese congregations. New church leaders like Vickie Pettis from ORTV were blessed and officially installed. In the photo above, Doris, Simon, Pastor Ko and one of the church elders pray for Vickie as she is commissioned as a new leader at HOC.

Linda Yeh prays "Lord, Lord, please take me home..." :) Oh well, who knows what she was really praying, but just look at that expression of peace and earnestness on her face. Behind her are Malia and Vickie. Ling, Bryan and I are down at the end next to Pastor Ko.


Pastor Ko preaches to the church. Doris and Simon are seated in the front row. Doris makes sure Pastor Ko's theology is correct. :) Liz is standing in the top left corner translating as she speaks into a microphone.

Here's Liz translating Pastor Ko's message into English. Perhaps she could have just given up the microphone and settled for whispering in Naomi's ear. :)

The choir and worship band lead the church in praise songs.

Two "laowai" (老外) - Phil and Bryan get blessed and inducted as small group leaders. "Lord, give us the gift of Chinese tongues as well as a servant's heart.":)

English Class Dinner

With students from Shi-Chien University English conversation class. At end of the semester we had dinner at a local restaurant in Dazhi (Casa Della Pasta).

New Year's in Taipei

Here's a view of the Dazhi Bridge (大直橋) on New Year's Eve as spectators crowd to see the fireworks display which will take place over at Taipei 101. It's really quite a spectacular show they have every year. I missed it this year (since I had to stay home and watch on TV because I was sick). Anyway, thanks to Daniel Bastke and Andrea Brodersen for these pictures from Andrea's rooftop. Yes, there were lots of other people on the rooftop with them at the time. :)

In this photo, the 101 appears to erupt in a giant fireball.

Fortunately, it's not a Chinese missile strike, but it's just the New Year's fireworks show.
