It's Great To Be A Taiwan Tar Heel!

"Yay! It's great to be a Taiwan Tar Heel!"

Now I know what "cheerleader" Beth Bowyer was so excited about at a recent school rally in Taiwan (see previous post below). Beth's alma mater, the University of North Carolina has a great basketball team. They just won over their arch rival, Duke ("Dook"). The two schools are located less than ten miles apart in Chapel Hill and Durham, N.C. In fact, there are exchange programs between the two schools. Their college basketball teams have one of the best rivalries in all of American sports. This year, UNC's Dook exchange students were barred from getting tickets to the game at Dook on Feb. 7th. Apparently some Dook folks complained after getting beat in a game last year with UNC fans in attendance. Turns out that with a completely all-Dook crowd this year, it still didn't make any difference. Ha, ha! :)

Brandan Wright slams one home against Dook.

The notorious Dook fans known as "The Cameron Crazies" do their best to heckle and distract Carolina players like Danny Green here. Their name comes from Dook's arena - Cameron Indoor Stadium. Because the fans are so noisy and close to the court, it's considered one of the toughest places to play an away game in college basketball. This is still true even though "away" for the Tar Heels means less than ten miles down the road.
